MASCAC QUARTERFINALS: No.4 Salem State Hosts No.5 Framingham State
SALEM, Mass. - The No. 4-seeded Salem State women's soccer team (8-7-2, 4-4 MASCAC) hosts No. 5-seeded Framingham State University (6-8-4, 3-3-2 MASCAC) in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 5 at 4:00 p.m.
Five Things to Know
- Salem enters the tournament as the fourth seed and has now reached the postseason 13 straight years.
- While the Vikings have won the regular-season championship eight times, the squad will look to earn its first MASCAC postseason championship since the conference started them in 2000.
- At home this year, Salem finished with a 6-2-1 record. It is their most home wins since 2017, when the team also had six home victories.
- Wednesday's home playoff game is the squad's first since 2023, when Salme hosted Fitchburg State in a MASCAC Quarterfinals match-up.
- The last time Salem and Framingham met in the playoffs was in 2021, where the Vikings fell in penalty kicks, 4-2.
Who to Watch For
- Salem's offense will be led by Krysta Zamejtis (Danvers, Mass.), who finished with a career-high five goals. Earlier this season, she had a stretch where she scored in three straight games. In those contests, Salem went 3-0-0, and whenever she does score, the Vikings are 5-0-0. In the MASCAC, she is currently tied for fifth in terms of goals. Earlier this year, Zamejtis was named a MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15, where she ended up scoring twice in a 2-0 week for Salem.
- The Blue and Orange's offense also features four other multi-goal scorers in Jenna Mitza (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Samantha Agno (Salem, Mass.), Anna Frost (Ada, Mich.), and Samarah Paiva (Revere, Mass.). Mitza finished the regular season with four goals, whereas Agno, Frost, and Paiva each had two on the year. Mitza's one of Salem's consistent forces on offense as she took a career-high 51 shots this season.
- Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) had a strong year in net for Salem. The junior goalie started in all 16 games she played in and set new career-highs in save percentage (.857), goals against average (1.00), and shutouts (seven). In the MASCAC, she is ranked in the top five in multiple categories: saves (96-third), save percentage (first), goals against (16-fifth), and goals against average (second). She was also a two-time MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week for Salem this year, the most she has had in a single season. Her seven shutouts allowed the Vikings to post their longest shutout streak in program history, surpassing the previous mark of four set back in 2008.
- Framingham's offense is led by goal scorer Leiyani Buckner, who finished the year with five goals. This season, Buckner had two multi-goal games, netting two goals in wins against Curry College and UMaine Fort Kent.
- In net for the Rams, both Savannah Goba and Amelia Finley split time at goalie, playing 855:00 and 765:00 minutes, respectively. Goba led Framingham with 42 saves and a 1.47 goals against average. The freshman goalie also notched three shutouts on the year as well. Meanwhile, Finley ended the regular season with 39 stops and a goals against average of 2.24 while also recording one shutout. Goba was the one who ended up grabbing the win against Salem earlier this year where she stopped six shots for a 2-0 win.
