THE LEAD:
Behind a strong performance in goal and a strong offensive showing, the Salem State Vikings earned a 2–0 shutout victory over the Framingham State Rams in a hard-fought conference matchup. Goaltender Amy Thul was sharp throughout, while the Vikings controlled play offensively and defensively from start to finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Salem State wasted little time setting the tone in the opening period, applying immediate pressure in the Rams' zone. The Vikings' aggressive forecheck and sustained offensive possession paid off midway through the period when Halle Greenleaf opened the scoring, finishing a play set up by Aislinn Bennett and Daelyn Williams to give Salem a 1–0 lead. The Vikings continued to generate quality chances, outshooting the Rams and forcing their goaltender into multiple saves. At the other end, Amy Thul was steady when tested, making key stops to preserve the early advantage heading into the second period.
The second period featured continued strong play from Salem State, as the Vikings controlled the pace and maintained consistent offensive pressure. While the Rams attempted to respond, Salem's defensive structure limited high-quality chances. Amy Thul remained composed in net, turning aside every shot she faced as the Vikings carried their one-goal lead into the final frame.
In the third period, Salem State put the game away with a power-play insurance goal. Talia Martucci capitalized with the extra skater, burying her chance off a setup from Daelyn Williams to extend the lead to 2–0. The Vikings continued to dictate play and create additional offensive opportunities, while Framingham State pushed late in search of a goal. Amy Thul stood tall in net, making several timely saves to secure the shutout and complete the 2–0 victory for the Vikings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Amy Thul would post a 19 save shutout against the Rams in net for the Vikings.
Halle Greenleaf and Talia Martucci would lead the Vikings in offense against the Rams scoring one goal each to secure the 2-0 win.
