THE LEAD - The Salem State women's basketball team put on a clinic on Wednesday night, overpowering the MCLA Trailblazers 94-43 in a dominant MASCAC performance. Kylie Schrock (Jr.) led all scorers with a massive 22 point effort, while Ernidia Goncalves (Sr.) anchored the interior with a double double to lead the Vikings to their highest scoring output of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Vikings wasted no time establishing control, opening the game on a 12-0 run sparked by layups from Goncalves and Lamia Ashley (Sr.). Salem State's defense was suffocating from the jump, holding MCLA without a point for nearly the first six minutes of the contest. By the end of the first quarter, the Vikings held an 18-9 lead.

In the second quarter, Salem State's offense truly ignited, outscoring the Trailblazers 27-10. Schrock took over the period, connecting on multiple layups and a shot from beyond the arc to push the lead to twenty. Maria Orfanos (Sr.) added to the surge with a late three pointer, sending the Vikings into the locker room with a commanding 45-19 cushion.

The second half was more of the same as the Vikings continued to extend their advantage. Ashley and Shakera Fullenwilder (Sr.) found easy transition buckets, and a buzzer beating three pointer from Lauren Wilson (So.) in the fourth quarter highlighted a frame where the Vikings outscored MCLA 24-12. Defensively, Salem State remained relentless, forcing a staggering 31 Trailblazer turnovers throughout the night.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Kylie Schrock delivered a standout performance, leading the team with 22 points, nine rebounds, and a game high five steals. Ernidia Goncalves was a force in the paint, recording a double double with 14 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Shakera Fullenwilder orchestrated the offense beautifully, tallying a team high seven assists to go along with nine points and six rebounds. As a team, the Vikings shot an impressive 52.1% from the field and dominated the glass, out-rebounding MCLA 51-29.
