THE LEAD
The Salem State Vikings powered through a high-scoring MASCAC doubleheader against the Framingham State Rams, sweeping both games in dramatic fashion. The Vikings outslugged the Rams 13–10 in an offensive explosion in game one, highlighted by a decisive eight-run fifth inning. Salem State followed with a resilient extra-inning performance in game two, pulling away late to secure an 8–5 victory and complete the conference sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Salem State Vikings wasted no time making noise in the opening game of their MASCAC doubleheader against the Framingham State Rams, jumping out to an early lead with a two-run homer from Tara Perryman in the top of the first inning.
Framingham State answered right back in the bottom half, capitalizing on timely hitting to push across three runs and take a 3–2 lead after one inning of play. Both teams settled in during the second, with neither side able to plate a run. The Rams extended their advantage in the third, adding two more runs while holding the Vikings scoreless to build a 5–2 cushion.
Salem State responded in the fourth, stringing together offense to score twice and cut the deficit to 5–4. Their pitching and defense followed up with a shutdown inning, keeping the Rams off the board in the bottom half and maintaining the one-run margin.
The game turned dramatically in the fifth inning, when the Vikings' bats exploded. Salem State erupted for eight runs in a dominant offensive surge, reclaiming control with a 12–5 lead. Framingham State managed to get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but still trailed 12–6.
The Vikings added an insurance run in the sixth to extend the lead to 13–6, though the Rams refused to go quietly. Framingham State rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the deficit to 13–10 and putting pressure on heading into the final inning.
In the seventh, however, both teams were held scoreless, allowing Salem State to secure a hard-fought 13–10 victory in the opening game of the MASCAC doubleheader.

Framingham State struck first, using timely hitting to plate two runs in the bottom of the opening inning and take an early 2–0 lead. Both teams were held in check in the second, but the Viking's responded in the third inning. The Vikings put together a strong offensive frame, scoring three runs to take a 3–2 lead, while their defense followed with a scoreless bottom half to maintain the lead.
The Rams answered in the fourth, reclaiming momentum with two runs to move back in front, 4–3. Salem State continued the back-and-forth battle in the fifth inning, pushing across two runs to regain the lead at 5–4.
With the game tightening late, Framingham State capitalized in the sixth inning, scoring once to even the contest at 5–5 and force a decisive final inning. After a scoreless seventh inning on both sides, the game moved into extras.
In the top of the eighth, the Vikings delivered the game's defining moment. Salem State broke through with three runs, stringing together key hits to take an 8–5 lead. The Rams would give all they had in the bottom half, but the Vikings' defense held firm, keeping Framingham State off the scoreboard to seal the double header victory against the Rams 8-5.
