THE LEAD – In back-and-forth matches throughout the day, the Salem State men's tennis team unfortunately came up short, falling to Norwich, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Norwich took the doubles point despite Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) taking the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-1.
- In singles, the Vikings and Cadets traded points with each other in the first three match-ups, with Wilkins taking the first singles (6-4, 6-4), and then the Cadets took the next singles match with Terrance Bayly-Henshaw earning a win at No. 2 singles over Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. However, Salem came back to tie the contest when Ian Ronan (Quincy, Mass.) won the No. 3 singles at 6-2, 6-4.
- Despite the even play, Norwich took the next three singles match-ups and earned a 4-3 non-conference victory.
