THE LEAD – The Salem State men's tennis team fell in a non-conference road contest at Thomas College, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Thomas took the doubles point by winning all three matchups, despite Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) giving the Terriers' No. 1 doubles a tough outing, falling 7-6.
- In singles, Salem was able to get one point back thanks to a hard-fought win by Wilkins in the No. 1 spot, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. However, the rest of the way, Thomas earned wins and ultimately won the match, 6-1. Even with Thomas winning all the singles match-ups, Jesse Rubera (Haverhill, Mass.) gave a valiant effort at No. 4 but fell, 6-4, 6-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Wilkins has now won his last three singles matchups.
- Wednesday marked the fifth meeting all-time between Thomas and Salem, with the Vikings leading the overall series, 3-2. Prior to today, the Blue and Orange had won the previous three contests.
