THE LEAD – The Salem State men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2026 season when the squad topped Albertus Magnus, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Celentano courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salem took the doubles point as Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) grabbed an 8-2 win in the No. 1 spot, while Ian Ronan (Quincy, Mass.) and Jesse Rubero (Haverhill, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at the No. 2 slot. Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) and Michael Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) capped off doubles with an 8-4 win in No.3 doubles.
- In singles action, Wilkins, Wood, and Ronan grabbed the first three points, which gave Salem a 4-0 lead. After the Falcons grabbed one point in the No. 4 spot, Muttiah helped put things out of reach with a hard-fought 7(9)-6(7) triumph at No. 5 singles.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Ronan and Rubero both earned their first collegiate singles and doubles wins.
- Makiej made his collegiate tennis debut on Tuesday.
- Today's match marked the first meeting between the two programs.
