Barry and Orleans Earn All-MASCAC Honors

MASCAC OFFICIAL RELEASE

SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State University men's basketball team saw two of its student-athletes earn All-MASCAC honors Wednesday afternoon. Ali Barry (Lynn, Mass.) was named to the All-Conference First Team, and Raheim Orleans (Attleboro, Mass.) earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Salem has now had a student-athlete earn postseason Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) honors every year since 1997.

Barry's All-Conference First Team honor is his first recognition by the MASCAC. In his first year with the Vikings, Barry set numerous career-highs, including points (394), points per game (15.2), field goal percentage (40.0), three-point percentage (34.7), free throw percentage (80.5), rebounds (136), rebounds per game (5.2), games played (26), and games started (26). In his 26 games this year, Barry scored 15 or more points in 15 of those games, highlighted by a career-high 27 points in a 100-92 win versus Curry. In conference play, he averaged 15.1 points and 5.9 rebounds, ranking him in the top 10 of the MASCAC (eighth).

Orleans highlighted his strong rookie campaign with a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. He is the first Salem freshman to earn a postseason MASCAC honor since the 2014-15 season when Drew Healy was named Rookie of the Year. In his first year with the Vikes, Orleans played and started in all 26 games, scoring a total of 348 points (13.4 points per game) while grabbing 251 rebounds (9.7 rebounds per game). He also swatted away 14 shots this year, which was good for 0.5 blocks per game. His strongest performance came at Endicott when he posted a double-double of 24 points (career-high) and 11 rebounds. He ended the year with 11 double-doubles. In terms of conference play, he averaged 14.3 points per game and grabbed 8.6 rebounds per game. His points per game mark had him tied for 10th and his rebounds put him at fourth.
