THE LEAD—  The No. 6 seed Salem State women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end when it fell in three straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-18) to No. 3 seed Framingham State Tuesday evening at Richard Logan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early in the first set, after a Presley Shairs (Salem, Mass.) kill brought Salem within two (7-5), Framingham gave itself breathing room when the hosts went up 19-10 courtesy of a 12-5 run that led to a Salem timeout. Coming out of the break, the Rams continued their momentum and went on to take the first set, 25-14.
  • In the second, Framingham's offense showed no signs of slowing down as the hosts had an early 5-1 lead. However, Salem continued to hang around and brought themselves within two (9-7) thanks to a 6-4 rally highlighted by a Keira Doherty (Woburn, Mass.) service ace.
  • Despite the Vikings' surge in offense, Framingham held off any Salem momentum and went up by as much as nine (19-10) thanks to a 10-3 run. The Blue and Orange would make it a four-point game (22-18) behind a late 8-3 rally led by two Ariana Barrows (Danvers, Mass.) kills. Unfortunately, Framingham would not Salem get any closer as the hosts scored the following three points for a 25-18 set win.
  • The Rams offense continued where they left off early in the third, thanks to a quick 9-3 lead. Even with the large lead, Salem would not be deterred as the squad rattled off a 9-4 rally to pull within one (13-12), which led to a Framingham timeout. Coming out of the break, Salem earned its first lead of the match (15-14) when Sabina Kamanda (Dracut, Mass.) earned the crucial kill.
  • Framingham ended up pushing back and retook the lead, making it 18-15 before the Vikings called a timeout of their own. After the timeout, the Rams closed out the final set by outscoring the Vikes, 7-3, for the eventual 25-18 set three victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
