MASCAC QUARTERFINALS: No. 6 Salem State Heads to No. 3 Framingham State
SALEM, Mass. - The No. 6-seeded Salem State women's volleyball team (10-14, 3-5 MASCAC) heads to No. 3-seeded Framingham State (16-12, 6-2 MASCAC) in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m.
Five Things to Know
- Salem enters the postseason as the sixth seed. It is the squad's first playoff appearance since 2021.
- Salem's 10 wins in the regular season are the most since 2018 (14).
- On the road this year, the Vikings have five wins. It is their most road wins in at least 20 seasons based upon available data.
- The program aims to capture its first MASCAC postseason title in program history.
- Last time Salem and Framingham met in the playoffs, the Rams swept the Vikings, 3-0, in 2021.
Who to Watch For
- Salem's offense features four student-athletes who finished with 100-plus kills on the year, led by Presley Shairs (Salem, Mass.) , who ended the regular season with 194. She had 11 contests this season where she finished with at least 10 kills, and against Framingham earlier this season, she led the squad with 13 kills. The other three Vikings who ended the year with over 100 kills were Sabina Kamanda (Dracut, Mass.), Bella Coccia (Westfield, Mass.), and Ariana Barrows (Danvers, Mass.) , who had career-highs of 162, 119, and 105 kills, respectively.
- Celia Carbone (Lynnfield, Mass.) guided the Vikings' attack all season long with a career-high 486 assists, which is the fifth-best mark in a single season in program history. She has had 10 matches this season where she dished out 20-plus assists, highlighted by a season-high 39 at MCLA (Oct. 25). Earlier this season, against Framingham, she dished out 36 assists (Sept. 27).
- On the defensive side, Kailey Roche (Billerica, Mass.) was all over the floor this season with a career-high 371 digs. This year for Salem, she had nine matches where she finished with at least 20 digs, highlighted by a season-high 29 versus Suffolk (Sept. 11). Earlier against Framingham this season, she recorded 21 digs in the match. This season, Roche became the program's all-time dig leader at 1,240.
- Framingham's offense is led by junior Natalie Reynolds, who led the Rams and MASCAC with 391 kills. In 22 of her 28 matches played this year, she finished with at least 10 kills, which includes a season-high 22 vs. Thomas College (Sept. 20). Against the Vikings this year, she ended up with 18 kills. Stella Bailey helped lead the Rams' attack this season with a conference-best 880 assists. She had six matches this year where she finished with 40 or more assists, including 43 against Salem earlier this year.
- Defensively, freshman Kristina Santiago-Alers led Framingham with 426 digs. She had nine matches this year with 20-plus digs, including a career-high versus Gordon (Oct. 25). Against Salem this year, she recorded 20 digs.
What's Next
If Salem were to win, the Vikings would play in the semifinals at No. 1 Bridgewater State on Thursday, November 13, at 6:00 p.m. However, if the Rams win, they will travel to No. 2 Westfield State on Thursday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of the 2025 MASCAC Championship earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA DIII National Tournament that starts later this month.
