Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season with Sweep at VTSU Castleton, 7-0

THE LEAD – The Salem State women's tennis team ended its regular season on a high note with a 7-0 sweep of VTSU Castleton Saturday afternoon at the Castleton Tennis Courts. With today's win, the squad secured the fifth seed in the Little East Conference (LEC) postseason tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salem State picked up the doubles point as Madison Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.) and Kenzie McLaren (Lynn, Mass.) earned a 6-3 win in the No. 1 pairing, while Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) and Ryann Tripp (Wareham, Mass.) followed suit with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, the final pairing of Samantha Bidzerkowny (Wellsville, N.Y.) and Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.) cruised to a 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot.
- Satori and McLaren grabbed the wins in singles with Satori taking the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Meanwhile, McLaren earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 2 spot, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
- Bidzerkowny took the tough victory at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2, 10-8, and Tenney followed suit with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
- Rounding out the action for the Vikings was a No. 5 singles win by Tripp, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0, and finally, Cox took the No. 6 singles spot, 6-3, 6-1, for the 7-0 sweep of the Spartans.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bidzerkowny and Cox have won their last four doubles matchups and overall finished 7-2 at No. 3 doubles in the regular season.
- Bidzerkowny and Sartori both ended the regular season with a two-match win streak in singles action.
- Salem State has now won the last two matchups versus VTSU Castleton. In the overall series between the two programs, Salem is 6-1 against the Spartans.
UP NEXT
- Salem State will travel to No. 4 seed, UMass Dartmouth, in the opening round of the LEC Women's Tennis Championship. The first round will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at a time to be determined.
