THE LEAD – In the home finale for the Salem State women's tennis team, the Vikings dropped the match to Bridgewater State, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon. Before the match, the Vikes honored their two seniors and graduate student-athletes on senior day. Salem State and the women's tennis team would like to thank Kenzie McLaren (Lynn, Mass.)Madison Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.), and Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) for their dedication to the Salem State women's tennis program throughout their careers!

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bridgewater secured the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Meanwhile, Salem avoided the sweep with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, thanks to Samantha Bidzerkowny (Weelsville, N.Y.) and Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.).
  • In singles action, Sartori got Salem on the board with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Despite the Bears taking No. 2 singles, Salem responded and evened the match at two thanks to a tough 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles from Bidzerkowny.
  • However, the visitors ended up taking the next three singles matchups, which would ultimately secure a 5-2 win for the visitors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Bidzerkowny and Cox have now won their last three doubles matchups and overall are 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
  • Sartori snapped her five-match losing streak in No. 1 singles action on Tuesday.
  • Bidzerkowny has now won three of her last five singles matches in the No. 3 spot.
