THE LEAD – The Salem State women's tennis team continued Little East Conference (LEC) play, hosting first-place Rhode Island College. However, the Vikes ended up falling 7-0 to the Anchorwomen Saturday afternoon at the SSU Tennis Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIC secured the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Meanwhile, Salem avoided the sweep with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, courtesy of Samantha Bidzerkowny (Weelsville, N.Y.) and Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.).
- The visitors continued their momentum going into singles, taking the first two matchups to go up 3-0. While Bidzerkowny fought hard in the third singles match, she ended up falling 4-6, 3-6.
- RIC continued its strong play with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. However, Cox gave Li Hsiu Hou all she could handle in the No. 6 singles spot but unfortunately fell in a tough 0-6, 6-7 (5-7) decision as the Anchorwomen earned the sweep on the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bidzerkowny and Cox have now won their last two doubles matchups and overall are 5-2 at No. 3 doubles.
- Saturday's match marked the ninth meeting between the two programs, with RIC leading, 9-0.
- The Vikings are now 2-2 at home on the year.
