THE LEAD –  After both sides went back and forth throughout the match, the Salem State women's tennis team fell 4-3 to UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference (LEC) action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings picked up the doubles point as Madison Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.) and Kenzie McLaren (Lynn, Mass.) cruised to a 6-1 win in the No. 1 pairing, while Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) and Ryann Tripp (Wareham, Mass.) grabbed a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
  • Despite dropping the first two matches in singles, Samantha Bidzerkowny (Weelsville, N.Y.) got the Vikings back on track at No. 3 singles, with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win.
  • UMass Dartmouth took the No. 4 singles matchup and took a 3-2 lead going into the fifth singles match, where Tripp earned a hard-fought (6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 win. Unfortunately, the Corsairs ended up with the match win after winning the No. 6 singles matchup.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The pairing of Sartori and McLaren extended their doubles win streak to four straight matches.
  • Tripp has now won her last three singles matches. 
  • Tuesday's matchup was the 19th meeting between the two programs. Currently, UMass Dartmouth leads the overall series, 12-7.
