Women's Tennis Extends Win Streak to Three With Sweep Over WestConn, 7-0

THE LEAD – The Salem State women's tennis team extended its win streak to three with a Saturday afternoon sweep of Western Connecticut State, 7-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salem State picked up the doubles point as Madison Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.) and Kenzie McLaren (Lynn, Mass.) earned a 6-4 win in the No. 1 pairing, while Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) and Ryann Tripp (Wareham, Mass.) followed suit with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, the final pairing of Samantha Bidzerkowny (Wellsville, N.Y.) and Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.) cruised to a 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot.
  • Satori and McLaren grabbed the wins in singles with Satori taking the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, McLaren earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
  • Bidzerkowny took the victory at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-,4 and Tenney followed suit with a tough 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
  • Rounding out the action for the Vikings was a No. 5 singles win by Tripp, 6-4, 6-1, and finally, Cox took the No. 6 singles spot, 6-3, 6-2, for the 7-0 sweep of the Wolves. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The pairing of Sartori and McLaren has yet to lose a doubles match this season.
  • Tripp has now won all three of her singles matches this year.
  • Salem's 3-0 start is its best since the 2011 season, when the squad began the year 7-0.
  • Salem has now won its last two matchups versus WestConn.
