THE LEAD – The Salem State Vikings kicked off the 2025 season with a dominant 5-1 win over Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings picked up the doubles point as Madison Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.) and Kenzie McLaren (Lynn, Mass.) cruised to a 6-0 win in the No. 1 pairing, while Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) and Ryann Tripp (Wareham, Mass.) followed suit with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
  • Satori and McLaren grabbed the wins in singles with Satori taking the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, McLaren earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
  • Despite Plymouth State grabbing a win at No. 3 singles, the Vikings closed out the contest with a Tenney 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles for Tripp.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Salem snapped a 15-match losing streak to the Panthers with today's win. 
  • Sartori and McLaren have now won three straight doubles matches as a pair, dating back to last season.
  • Today's win marked the Vikings' first season-opening victory since 2019 (Sept. 7 at Castleton).
