SALEM, MASS. – Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) remained unbeaten in the Little East Conference at No. 1 singles, improving to 6-0 on the season and 8-1 overall, but first place Rhode Island College came out on top 7-2 over the Vikings on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Center. The Anchorwomen are now 11-0 and 6-0 in conference while the Vikings slip to 5-4 and 4-2 in the LEC.
Startseva defeated Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) 6-3, 6-0 at first singles and teamed up with Caroline Robitaille (South Hadley, Mass.) at first doubles to secure an 8-2 victory over Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) / Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI) for the only two points for Salem State.
Zangari / Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) defeated Meredith MacDonald (Lynn, Mass.) / Kristin Klimowicz (Ipswich, Mass.), 8-1 at second doubles while Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) / Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) beat Hannah Dahrouge (South Hadley, Mass.) / Liana Angelis (Tewksbury, Mass.), 8-1 at third doubles.
Rhode Island College took five-of-six singles matches all in straight sets.
