THE LEAD— Thanks to an early first-half Anna Frost (Ada, Mich.) goal, the Salem State University women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over Keene State in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both sides played hard early on, with neither side giving the other any advantage. However, at 13:27, the Vikings drew a corner kick, and after Frost eventually corralled the loose ball, she rifled home the eventual game-winner, sending it past a diving Hanna Verville.
  • As the first half went on, Keene had numerous good looks to even the contest, including a shot by Elizabeth Tschudin that hit off the top right crossbar. After that shot, Salem's defense only allowed one more shot on net, but the Owls were turned away by Salem goalie Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) , and the squad took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Just like the first half, Salem's defense played a strong part and held Keene scoreless as Guyer and the Vikings' defense kept the Owls in check. The visitors had a look to tie the contest shortly into the frame at 48:43 when Tschudin ripped a shot on net, but Guyer made yet another save.
  • At 88:39, Keene had one more good look to tie the game when Claire Halligan sent a shot on net from the top of the goalie box but the shot went right into Guyer and the Vikings would hold on for the eventual 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Frost's goal was her first of the 2025 campaign.
  • Guyer ended the day with eight saves on net. Her eight stops marked a new season-high.
