SALEM, Mass - Taylor Capozzi's (Lynn, Mass.) two-goal, one assist effort helped the Salem State Vikings defeat the MCLA Trailblazers 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Vikings annual "Think Pink" game. Salem State improves to 4-10 on the season and the Trailblazers slip to 5-10 on the year.
In the 4th minute, Capozzi passed it to Casey McFall (Wilmington, Mass.) who passed it back to Capozzi in the middle of the box to score the first goal of the match.
In the 15th minute, Salem State was given a penalty kick. Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) took the penalty and with a powerful shot, she put the Vikings up 2-0. Salem State kept their 2-0 lead into the first half and held MCLA without a shot attempt. In the 52nd minute, Capozzi found Brown for an easy goal from a couple yards out allowing the Vikings to take a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Teagan Gilliss (Danvers, Mass.) gave Capozzi a lead pass, who scored her second goal of the game in the 66th minute to put Salem State up 4-0.
The Vikings dominated in the number of shots with 16 to the Trailblazers two shots.
For MCLA, Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass.) saved six shots for the match. For the Vikings, Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) saved two shots for the game.
The Vikings will face Plymouth State at home on Wednesday.
