THE LEAD: The Salem State women's lacrosse team capped off its regular season with a 15-6 loss at Worcester State Saturday morning at John Coughlin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Worcester State kicked off the scoring by potting two quick goals from Meghan Bowen and Fallon Lozano at 10:12 and 09:41, respectively. Salem had a good look later in the first (07:09) when Kaylee Rich (Danvers, Mass.) fired a shot on net that was stopped by Lancers goalie, Cadence Oleniak. Later in the frame, Worcester tacked on another score thanks to McKayla Fisher and took a 3-0 lead going into the second.
  • In the second quarter, it was all Worcester State as the hosts outscored Salem, 8-1. The Lancers started the quarter with four unanswered goals before Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) stopped the run to make it a 7-1 game. However, Worcester capped off the frame with four more goals and took an 11-1 lead into halftime.
  • Starting out the third, Worcester State continued its offensive momentum and scored three quick goals, with two coming from Lozano, which pushed the Lancers' lead to 13 (14-1).
  • Despite the large deficit, the Vikes would not go quietly as the squad found the back of the net twice within the last five minutes, thanks to scores from Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) and Young at 05:54 and 01:10, respectively, to head into the final frame down 11 (14-3).
  • The final quarter saw Salem's offense continue where it left off in the third by scoring three goals thanks to Bennett (11:53), Young (08:03), and Rich (03:06), which made it an eight-point game (14-6). Despite the late surge in offense, the Lancers tacked on another goal with 02:04 left to ultimately secure a 15-6 win.
