THE LEAD: In a tight contest throughout the evening, the Salem State women's lacrosse team fell to Framingham State, 8-5, in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emma Kendzulak helped get Framingham State on the board first with goals at 10:14 and 05:45, respectively. Salem had a chance to cut the deficit toward the end of the quarter when Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) fired a shot with 40 seconds left on net, but was turned away by Rams goalie Isabella DiMare.
  • However, early in the second (11:33), Benett redeemed herself by firing a shot past DiMare on a free position and made it a 2-1 game. Both sides continued to battle hard throughout the second, and with a little over a minute left until half (01:05), Kaylee Rich (Danvers, Mass.) found the back of the net and tied the game at two. Despite the goal, the Rams ended up scoring right at the buzzer thanks to Jenna James and took a 3-2 lead into the half.
  • Going into the third, the Rams quickly pushed their lead to three (5-2) with scores from Alessia Lye and Kendzulak. Even with the deficit, Salem would not go quietly as Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) and Bennett answered back with goals of their own and pulled the Vikes within one (5-4).
  • Despite the rally, the hosts stretched the lead back to three with two scores from James at 06:23 and 05:52 and went into the final quarter up 7-4.
  • Less than two minutes into the fourth, Katie Pizzardi doubled Salem's lead with a score of her own, making it 8-4 at 13:53. Young, though, responded nearly six minutes later at 07:21 with her second goal of the day and trimmed the deficit to three (8-5).
  • From then on, Salem had multiple chances to continue to cut into the Rams' lead by firing off two more shots but could not find the back of the net which resulted in an 8-5 Rams win.
