THE LEAD: Thanks to seven different goal scorers, the Salem State women's lacrosse team earned a 20-0 victory at Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first quarter, the Salem offense came out firing, scoring six unanswered goals. Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) highlighted the high-scoring quarter with two goals of her own.
  • Despite scoring only three goals in the second, the Vikings' defense held firm, allowing no Anna Maria goals or shots, and took a 9-0 lead into the half. Once again, Young led the scoring with two goals while Olivia Tednes (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) chipped in a score of her own.
  • The third quarter was more of the same for the Vikings, as the Blue and Orange dominated the AMCATS, outscoring the hosts 8-0. Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) highlighted the frame, scoring a hat trick while also dishing out an assist that helped Salem take a 17-0 advantage into the final quarter. In the fourth, Salem tacked on three more goals while limiting Anna Maria to just four shots and no scores for a 20-0 triumph.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Four different Vikings finished the day with three or more goals, led by Bennett and Young's five scores. Jordan Turcotte (Danvers, Mass.) and Kaylee Rich (Danvers, Mass.) were the other two with three goals apiece.
  • Bennett's five scores marked a new career-high for her. Meanwhile, Young's five tied a season-high.
  • Nora Bradley (Haddon Township, N.J.) earned the win in 41:27 of action after making just one stop. Isabella Demaria (Chelmsford, Mass.) also saw time in between the pipes, playing the last 18:33.
  • Grace Holden took the loss for Anna Maria with 12 saves in 60:00.
  • Salem's 20 goals mark a new season-high for the squad. The Vikings have now scored 15 or more goals in four games this year. In those contests, the Vikes are 4-0.
  • The Vikings' 8-0 start to the year is the best start in program history after eight games.
