THE LEAD: For the second game in a row, the Salem State women's lacrosse team scored 15 goals and ended up topping UMaine Farmington, 15-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an opening score by Hannah Cochran (Marshfield, Mass.) less than a minute into the contest (14:44), the Beavers ended up pulling even at one courtesy of an Ally Trefsger score. However, for the remainder of the quarter, it was all Vikings as the squad scored four unanswered goals and took a 5-1 lead after the first. Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) highlighted the scoring with two goals in the frame.
- In the second, UMaine Farmington chipped away with an early second goal from Bree Griffin that made it a 5-2 game. But just like the first quarter, the Vikings offense took over once again and scored six-straight goals for an 11-2 lead at the half. Jordan Turcotte (Danvers, Mass.) led the high-powered Salem offense with three goals in the quarter.
- In the third, both sides played hard defensively, giving up a goal apiece; however, Salem blanked UMaine Farmington in the fourth by outscoring the visitors 3-0, ultimately ending with a 15-3 triumph.
