THE LEAD:
The Salem State University women's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought 12–10 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards in a back-and-forth non-conference matchup.
Both teams traded goals throughout the contest as each offense created scoring opportunities. The Vikings and Leopards exchanged shots and goals across all four quarters, with neither team able to pull far ahead. Salem State managed to find key goals late in the game while the defense held strong down the stretch to secure the two-goal win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening draw, the game featured a fast pace and constant offensive momentum opportunities and chances. Both teams traded goals throughout the first half, with each offense creating scoring opportunities and testing the opposing defenses. Salem State and Wentworth exchanged shots repeatedly, with several attempts from both sides narrowly missing the net as the two teams searched for an edge.
The Vikings managed to keep pace during every run by the leopards, answering key goals with timely scoring of their own. Back-and-forth play defined much of the contest, as both teams pushed the tempo and generated quality chances in transition.
In the second half, the Vikings would continue to find openings offensively while the defense held strong during several Leopards attempts and opportunities. The Leopards stayed within striking distance, but the Vikings maintained their composure during the closing minutes to preserve the two-goal lead.
As the game would come to an end it would be the Salem State Vikings secure the 12–10 win in a competitive matchup that saw both teams exchanging goals, shots, and momentum throughout the game.
