Powered by a pair of goals in the opening two periods, the Worcester State Lancers earned a 2–0 conference victory over the Salem State Vikings. Worcester State found the back of the net once in the first period and again in the second, building a two-goal cushion. It would be Salem State's goaltender who would continue to turn aside a series of quality chances to keep the game within reach. Salem State responded by tightening up defensively and pushing offensive momentum, creating several quality scoring chances, but was unable to score against the Lancers' goaltender. The Vikings controlled stretches of play in the third period and kept the game within reach, but no goals were scored in the final frame as Worcester State held on for the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Salem State Vikings women's ice hockey team battled hard in a conference matchup against the Lancers of Worcester State, but ultimately fell 2–0 despite a strong defensive effort and sustained offensive pressure throughout the game.Worcester State struck first in the opening period, capitalizing on an early opportunity to take a 1–0 lead. Salem State responded with energy, pushing the pace and generating offensive chances, but was unable to break through a disciplined Lancers defense and steady goaltending. In net for the Vikings, Amy Thul kept Salem State within reach early, turning aside several quality chances as Worcester State pressed.
The Lancers added their second goal in the middle frame, extending the lead to 2–0. From there, the Vikings tightened up defensively and continued to push offensively, with Amy Thul standing strong in goal and making key saves to prevent Worcester State from extending the lead further.
Salem State would create some scoring opportunities and applying pressure in the offensive zone in the third period but was unable to score on the Lancers goalie. Thul capped off a strong performance with a scoreless final period, as neither team found the back of the net and both defenses held firm, and the Lancers would hold on for the shutout win against the Vikings.
