THE LEAD: – Despite a sensational 46-save performance from Salem State Women's Ice Hockey goaltender Amy Thul, the Vikings were unable to complete the comeback after battling back to tie the game at 1–1, falling 2–1 in a hard-fought non-conference road contest. Daelyn Williams accounted for the Vikings' lone goal against the Falcons

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Vikings and Falcons opened the game with a tightly contested first period, trading chances as both teams tested each other's defenses. The Vikings generated sustained pressure and multiple quality opportunities, but the Falcons' goaltender stood tall to keep the game scoreless. At the other end, Vikings goalie Amy Thul was equally strong, turning aside Falcons chances to send the game to the second period tied 0–0.

The Vikings continued to press in the second period, maintaining offensive pressure and creating promising looks. Thul remained sharp in net to keep the Vikings within reach, but it was the Falcons who broke through first, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity around the 12-minute mark to take a 1–0 lead. The Vikings responded quickly, and it wasn't long before Daelyn Williams found the back of the net to even the score at 1–1. The back-and-forth play continued through the remainder of the period, with the teams heading into the third deadlocked.

The third period saw both sides push the pace, trading shots and chances as each team looked for the go-ahead goal. The Falcons struck at the 9:59 mark, scoring their second goal of the game to regain the lead. The Vikings refused to back down, applying relentless pressure and firing shots from all areas of the ice in search of the equalizer. Despite their strong effort and sustained offensive push, the Vikings were unable to beat the Falcons' goaltender again, falling 2–1 in a hard-fought contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Amy Thul would record 46 saves on 48 shots against the Falcons, (.958 save percentage) and would consistently keep the Vikings in the contest against a the Falcons. 
  • Daelyn Williams would score the only goal for the Vikings.
