SALEM, Mass. - After earning a crucial 3-1 win over No. 5 seed Anna Maria College in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Quarterfinals, the No. 4seed Salem State men's soccer team heads to No. 1 seed Bridgewater State for a MASCAC Semifinals matchup on Friday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Five Things to Know
- Salem State enters the tournament as the fourth seed and has now reached the postseason eight straight seasons.
- The Vikings have reached the MASCAC Semifinals for the eighth-straight postseason.
- Friday's matchup is a rematch of last year's semifinal, where the Blue and Orange defeated the Bears 4-2 in penalty kicks after going scoreless in regulation and double overtime.
- Salem has won its last two playoff matches against Bridgewater.
- Going into Friday, the Vikes are currently riding a 12-game unbeaten streak, going 7-0-5 since late September.
Who to Watch For
- Iago De Sousa-Vieira (Medford, Mass.) continued where he left off in the regular season. After scoring in Wednesday's quarterfinal win over Anna Maria, the graduate forward has now extended his scoring streak to seven matches. In his lone matchup against Bridgewater earlier this season, he recorded one of his two hat tricks. In games where he has scored, the Vikings are 8-0-4.
- Matheus Pelissari (Lowell, Mass.) was one of Salem's other scorers in the win over Anna Maria. His score highlights how many scoring options the Vikings have, as the squad features eight multi-goal scorers. Pelissari is also one of three student-athletes to have scored at least five goals this year, joining De Sousa-Vieira's 16 and Jadiel Bomfim (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who also have five.
- In net, Salem went with Marcelo Silva (Marlborough, Mass.), who stopped eight AMCATS shots in Wednesday's 3-1 win. Silva set numerous career-highs in minutes (990:00), saves (48), and wins (five) while also posting a solid 1.45 goals against average. In his career against Bridgewater, he's allowed just one goal and made six stops. The Vikings also feature goalie Brady Whitmarsh (Attleboro, Mass.), who finished the year with career-highs in games played and starts (seven), minutes, wins (four), and shutouts (three). In the 3-3 draw against Bridgewater this year, he tied his career-high in saves (nine).
- Bridgewater's offense features four different goal scorers (Tyler Chang, Filippo Mucci, Nicholas Ribeiro, and Cameron Walty) who lead the team with five goals apiece. However, Riberior will be the one to watch as he posted three game-winning goals this year for the Bears.
- In net for the Bears, the squad is led by Kyle Sullivan, who posted a 1.46 goals against average along with seven shutouts in his 16 games played this year. In the 3-3 draw against Salem this year, Sullivan stopped three shots.
What's Next
The winner will play in the conference's championship on Sunday, November 9, against either the No. 2 seed Mass. Maritime or No. 3 seed Westfield State at a time to be determined.
The winner of the 2025 MASCAC Championship earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA DIII National Tournament, which starts on Saturday, November 15.
