THE LEAD— After a back-and-forth contest throughout the afternoon, the Salem State men's soccer team tied 1-1 versus Clark University in non-conference action at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides played each other hard to open the first half, as neither side gave the other much momentum. However, at the 17:31 mark, Jadiel Bomfim (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) gave the Vikes a 1-0 lead after intercepting Clark's goalie's clear-out attempt at the top of the box. From there, he was able to put enough on his shot to beat an out-of-place Diego Marin. As the rest of the half played out, Salem's defense held firm, allowing zero shots, and the squad took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
- As the second half got underway, the Cougars evened the contest at one courtesy of a Jordan Adeyemi goal after being set up from a cross pass by Henry Kuerbis. After the score, Salem continued to pepper Marin with the rest of the contest, putting six shots on net, but unfortunately, they were turned away each time, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bomfim's goal was his fourth of the year.
- Brady Whitmarsh (Attleboro, Mass.) got the start in net for Salem and ended the night with six saves.
