THE LEAD— The Salem State men's ice hockey team fell to No. 14 Endicott College in its home opener, 8-1, on Sunday evening at Rockett Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Less than a minute into the contest (00:46), the Gulls got on the board first courtesy of a Lou Kamienski score. James Hooley corralled the puck in Endicott's end of the ice and pushed it ahead to Sebastian Speck, who had Kamenski for a two-on-one advantage. Once Speck made the pass over to Kamenski, he put the puck between his own legs for the nifty score.
- As the first period continued, Endicott tacked on two more goals to go up 3-0 courtesy of Hudson Blue and Noah Gibbs at 9:28 and 11:41, respectively. The second period was more of the same for the visitors. The Gulls pushed their advantage out to six (6-0) with another three-goal period off the sticks of Gibbs (13:46), Therien Thiesing (15:39), and Sebastian Speck (19:36).
- However, in the third (5:44), Salem finally got on the board when Nick Sweet (Pittsburgh, Pa.) put his shot past Endicott goalie, Peter Sterling, to cut the deficit to five (6-1). Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Vikings would get as the visitors pushed the lead out to seven with two more scores in the frame and ended up with the 8-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sweet's score is first of the 2025 season and fourth of his career.
