Men's Golf Caps Off Duke Nelson Invitational

THE LEAD – The Salem State University men's golf team wrapped up its time in Vermont at the Duke Nelson Invitational with a tie for 14th place by posting a total team score of 628. Overall, on the final day, the squad had a score of 313.  

SALEM STATE HIGHLIGHTS

• Matt Tramonte (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Joe Orlando (Gloucester, Mass.) both led the Vikings with a tie for 32nd. Both Vikings finished the day with an overall score of 153 (+11) whereas Orlando had a 75 (+4) and Tramonte finished with a 80 (+9) in the final round.
• Anthony Choukas (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out the top-50 for the Vikings with a tie for 46th place finish at 155 (+13). On the final day, he posted a score of 75 (+4). 
• Rounding out the leaderboard for the Vikings, Trevor Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif.) came in 99th place at 169 (+27) with a final round score of 83 (+12). Meanwhile, Michael Murphy (Orlando, Fla.) ended the Invitational in 100th place at 170 (+28) with a final round score of 86 (+15). 

OTHER RESULTS

• Overall, Amherst ended up winning th,e invitatinal with ,a team score of 584 followed by Babson who narrowly came in second at 588. Rounding out the rest of the top five were Middlebury (598), Trinity (603), and Skidmore (605).
• Jack Berry of Babson led all golfers at the Duke Nelson with an overall score of 138 (-4) and a 70 (-1) in the final round.

• Salem looks to repeat as MASCAC champions next weekend when the squad takes part in the MASCAC Championship starting on Saturday, September 20.
