THE LEAD—  Thanks to Zoey Radford's (Middleborough, Mass.) two-goal performance, the Salem State Field Hockey team came away with a 3-1 win over Framingham State Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Throughout the first quarter, both sides played each other tough despite Salem outshooting Framingham, 8-4. As time expired, Radford found the back of the net after Mikayla Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) set up the freshman for the score.
  • As the second got underway, the Rams evened things at one after Finley Hogan snuck her shot past Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) after Allison Harmuth put the ball in front of a crowded net. However, less than a minute later, Mady Breault (Hubbardson, Mass.) gave the Vikings the lead right back.
  • Thanks to strong defense, the Vikings took a 2-1 lead into the half, and towards the end of the third, Radford tacked on another insurance goal. With a scrum in front of the net, Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.) found a small opening to Radford, which allowed her to score her second goal of the afternoon.
  • From then on, Mosley and the Salem defense held firm the rest of the third and throughout the fourth as the Vikings allowed only four shots in the fourth and ultimately secured a 3-1 MASCAC win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Radford's two-goal performance is her first multi-goal performance of the year.
  • Breault's score marked the first of her career.
  • Mosley ended the afternoon with 11 saves. She has now recorded 10-plus saves in all six appearances this season.
  • For the visitors, Kaitlyn Tello stopped 12 shots.
  • Salem held a slight shot advantage by a 22-17 margin.
  • With the win today, the Vikings are 3-0 at home. The last time Salem began the year undefeated at home was during the 2008 season, when the squad also started the year 3-0 at home.
  • The Blue and Orange were also able to snap a three-game losing streak to the Rams.
