SALEM, Mass. -- Derek Angell went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI to lead Salem State to a 10-4 non-conference win over Suffolk on Wednesday afternoon at The Central Campus Baseball Field. The Vikings scored six first innings run in improving to 13-14 on the season. The Rams are now 11-20.

Owen Duggan had three hits, including a double with a run and RBI for the Vikings. Lucas Rincon was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBI. Brandon McMahon earned the win in relief of starter Alex Metznik, who went 3.0 scoreless innings with a strikeout. McMahon allowed a run on four hits in two innings pitched.

Suffolk starter Nick Rubin (1-1) lasted 0.2 innings, allowing six runs on four hits with three walks. Max Martin led the offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles with two RBI and a run.

How It Happened:

  • Salem State batted around in the first, sending 11 men to the plate while collecting five hits and six runs. Two walks to open the inning led to an RBI base hit by Duggan. Rincon and Dylan Adamson brought in a run each on RBI singles before a double steal scored Rincon with the fourth run. Aidan Lynch and Jake Boucher plated the final two runs of the inning with run scoring singles.
  • A Mike Mullaney single in the fourth made it a 6-1 game before Sebastian Lampert added an RBI single up the middle in the fifth to make the score 6-2.
  • Rincon added another RBI base hit in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-2.
  • Martin's two-run double in the eighth drew Suffolk to within 7-4.
  • However, a costly error by the Rams in the eighth helped Salem State ice the game as they scored three times, including a two-run single by Angell.

Salem State takes on Worcester State this Friday at The Central Campus Baseball Field @ 3:00 pm.
