Marydolores Brown, a four-year standout for the lady Vikings in the sport of basketball, accumulated career totals of 1,058 points (7th on the all-time list), 598 rebounds (3rd) and 106 games played (tied for 4th). Brown was one of the primary contributors to Salem State College’s first and only National Championship, a milestone celebrated in 1986 by the Lady Vikings. In that same year Brown became the first ever SSC student-athlete to be awarded Academic All-American honors, a national recognition for athletes in Division III. Brown was the first female student-athlete at SSC to be awarded the Howard C. Smith Award recognizing her as best athlete in the State College Conference that year. She served as a co-captain in her senior year and in 1990 as the interim coach for the Women’s Field Hockey team. Brown is a graduate of East Douglas high School and presently teaches and coaches at St. Mary’s of Lynn. She resides in Salem.
