Lawrence Lowrey

Lowrey, a Waltham native and All American football player at Holy Cross, served for many years at Salem State College in the joint position of Dean of Men and Director of Athletics. As a faculty member, he taught Physical Education and Logic. During most of the years he was at Salem, he coached several teams including the basketball and baseball squads. His teams won numerous titles and several league championships. He was responsible for much of the initial organization of Salem State College’s Men’s intercollegiate athletic programs. Lowrey, who retired in 1971, was to generations of Salem students a friend, a mentor, and a coach.


Lola Lowrey, Lawrence’s widow, accepts his award tonight. She lives in Malden where she and her husband had lived for many years. Their daughter, Lynn, is also with us.
