Nicolle Wood, who served as the top assistant women's soccer coach at Salem State College since 1996, was named the program's new head coach in 2007. Wood, who is a 1995 SSC graduate, played goalkeeper for the Lady Vikings from 1991 through 1994 and was a member of four Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference championship teams. 

Wood served on the SSC coaching staff when the Lady Vikings captured the 1999 and 2004 league crowns. She is the only SSC player or coach who has played a role in seven of the program's nine MASCAC titles since college added women's varsity soccer at NCAA Division 3 level in 1986. Wood participated in three NCAA tournaments and one ECAC tournament during her playing days and helped the Lady Vikings capture back-to-back (2002 & 2003) ECAC New England championships when she served as an assistant coach at SSC. In addition to her work at the college during those years, Wood also served as a head coach for the Force soccer club from 1996-2005.
Wood, who worked as Director of Programs at High Performance Sports, INC in Peabody for four years prior to taking over the SSC women's program, has been a featured presenter at Massachusetts Youth Soccer conferences and special events, including state-wide meetings, coaching education courses, and Olympic Development Program events. She holds her NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and is has served as a staff coach for the Lake Placid Soccer Center in NY and the Terrier Training Soccer Academy. Wood is currently a head coach for the FCGB Bolts Soccer Club, and is the owner/director of Viking Soccer Camp for Girls. 

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Coach Wood is also the CHAMPS/Life Skills director for SSC and the Senior Women’s Administrator for Athletics. She is a 1995 cum laude graduate of the SSC Sports, Movement Science program and is currently a candidate for the Master of Sports Administration program at Northeastern University.
