Salem State Alumnus Tom Thibodeau To Be Named Head Coach of the Chicago Bulls

Salem State College alumnus Tom Thibodeau '81 will be named as the new head coach of the National Basketball Association's Chicago Bulls. Thibodeau, who coached the Viking basketball team to a 9-17 record in 1984-85, began his coaching career at Salem State as an assistant to former head coach Art Fiste in 1981. Thibodeau left after the 1985 season to become an assistant basketball coach at Harvard University.
Thibodeau was a four-year member of the Vikings' basketball team from 1977-1981, and was named captain during his senior year. He averaged 10.9 points per game during his final two seasons and helped lead Salem State to two MASCAC conference championships and the college's first two NCAA tournament bids in 1980 and 1981.
