Corsairs Slip Past Salem State 10-9

Salem, MA – Josh Arsenault (Revere, MA) scored four goals for the Umass-Dartmouth Corsairs in their 10-9 Little East Conference victory over the Salem State Vikings at Alumni field on Tuesday evening.
The Corsairs improved their season record to 7-8 and now posses a 3-3 conference record. The Viking’s now stands at 10-6. They are in fourth place with 3-3 record in the Little East.
UMass-Dartmouth goal scorers included Arsenault with four, Paul Nunes (Mansfield, MA) with two, and Steve Mahon (Norwood, MA), Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA) and Christian Roberto (Wakefield, MA) with one score apiece. Netminder Cameron Crown (Walpole, MA) saved 9-of-18 shots to earn the victory.
Jonathan Falls (Seekonk, MA) notched three goals for Salem State. Ryan Savini (Wilmington, MA) and Justin Jones (Danvers, MA) each scored two goals. Robert Mulroy (Swampscott, MA) and Brandon Cali (Leominster, MA) both contributed a goal for the Vikings. Brendan Gill (Chelmsford, MA) was 11-for-21 in between the pipes.
The Corsairs held a 6-4 lead at halftime thanks to Arsenault’s three first half goals. The Vikings defense rebounded in the second half. UMass-Dartmouth was held scoreless for the entire third quarter, giving Salem State a shot for the win in the fourth.
Down by one with 8:37 left in the game Jones capitalized on a man-up situation for the Vikings. The attackman wrapped around the net and dove in front of the crease to score and knot the game up at eight apiece. However,on the ensuing face off, Corsairs midfielder Christian Roberto drove downfield and scored to give UMass-Dartmouth the lead back at 9-8.
The Vikings will face Eastern Connecticut State on Alumni Field Saturday evening at seven o’clock for the final game of the regular season.
