Vikings Roll Over St. Joe's 15-3
2009 lacrosse
Salem, MA – The Salem State Vikings defeated the Monks from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine 15-3 on Tuesday afternoon in their home opener at Alumni field.

The win improves Salem State to 1-1 on the season. Saint Joseph’s falls to 1-2 on the year.
The Vikings scorers cracked the code of the Monk’s starting goaltender Marco Stefano (Steep Falls, ME) early in the match up. The net-minder stopped all but 2 off the 11 shots he faced in the first half. Salem State’s Jonathan Falls (Seekonk, MA) led the team in points at the half with his contribution of two goals and three assists.

Kyle Dolan (North Andover, MA) and Robert Mulroy (Swampscott, MA) scored two goals each in the first half. Brandon Cali (Leominster, MA) and Justin Jones (Danvers, MA) each added a goal in the Salem State attack as the home team scored early and often.

Head coach Trevor Eaton’s defensive squad played just as well as their offensive counterparts. Brendan Gill (Chelmsford, MA) was only asked to stop the only two first half Saint Joseph’s shot. The Vikings cruised into the second half with a nine goal shut out.

Salem State continued with their dominance throughout the second half. Mulroy scored two additional goals to achieve a game high total of four goals scored.

The Monks recorded three second half goals in the contest. One each from Paul Dolewa (Saco, ME), Spencer Hunt (Jeffersonville, VT) and Dylan Chase (West Newbury, MA)

The Viking’s begin a four-game road trip on Saturday when they travel to take on the Colonel’s of Curry College at noon. Alumni field will host the next men’s home lacrosse game on April 3rd, against UMass Boston at one o’clock.
