Jenkins scores 30 in 76-66 win over Fitchburg State

Salem, Mass. -- Senior Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA) scored a game-high 30 points and had 10 rebounds as the Salem State Lady Vikings earned a 76-66 victory over the Fitchburg State Falcons Thursday night. The Lady Vikings improved to 10-5 overall, 3-1 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons fell to 8-8, 2-2.

Jenkins, who notched her second straight double-double, had a strong first half, hitting on 6-of-8 from the field to help Salem State build a 14 point lead.  Kim Duprey (Bernardston, MA) kept Fitchburg State in the game, scoring a team-high 12 points in the opening period, including consecutive three-pointers in the final minute to help the Falcons cut the deficit to six points at intermission, 35-29.

Rebecca Goreham (Quincy, MA), six points and eight rebounds, hit a jumper at the 17:51 mark to cut the lead to four. However, the Lady Vikings ran off seven straight points to push the lead back to 11 points at 44-33.

Amy Barry (Manchester, NH), who dropped in 15 points, and Brianna Wilson (Lowell, MA), 12 points, and eight rebounds, helped the Lady Vikings keep a comfortable lead until Fitchburg State was able to pull within five at 67-62 with four and a half minutes remaining, but a jumper by Jenkins and layup by Wilson ended the threat.

Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, MA) scored 14 points and grabbed eight boards for the Falcons which, have not won consecutive games since December 12th.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, January, 23rd with Salem State traveling to Bridgewater State to take on the Bears at 1:00 PM while Fitchburg State will host the MCLA Trailblazers.

Sam Avoine, (Fr., G, Ste-Perpetue, Que.) -- Posted pair of victories to go with 0.99 GAA and .982 saves percentage in leading Vikings to MASCAC Championship, including 20 saves in 6-1 semi-final triumph over Plymouth State to go with 34 stops in 2-1 overtime title game victory at Fitchburg State.
