Lady Vikings throttle Framingham State 79-48
2010 Lady Vikings
Salem, Mass. -- Senior forward Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA) scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Salem State to an easy 79-48 victory over Framingham State Tuesday night at Twohig Gymnasium. The Lady Vikings improved to 9-5 overall, 2-1 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference play. The Rams fell to 5-8, 0-4.

The contest was never in doubt as Salem State jumped out to leads of 11-1 and 17-2. The Rams missed their first 13 shots and did not score a field goal until Kia Minor's (Oak Bluffs, MA) layup with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.

By that point, seven different Lady Vikings players had scored, and Salem State led 22-6. Framingham State managed consecutive baskets just once in the opening 20 minutes, when Minor and Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) connected to cut the deficit to 28-12. Salem State squashed any hopes of a Ram comeback, however, as Jenkins and freshman forward Whitney Wilson (Lowell, MA) combined to score eight points in a 16-5 run to end the half and give the Lady Vikings a commanding 44-17 lead at intermission.

Jenkins (11 points, 9 rebounds) and Wilson (9 points, 7 rebounds) each nearly had double-doubles in the first half. The Lady Vikings shot just 37.5% from the field in the opening period, but were 16-19 (84%) from the free throw line. The Rams were held to just 4-26 shooting (15.4%) and committed 15 turnovers.
