Lady Vikings Fall to Gordon 3-2

WENHAM, MA. Gordon won an exciting 5-set match over visiting Salem State, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13, Wednesday night at the Bennett Center. The two teams battled evenly for well over 200 points before the Fighting Scots emerged with the victory.
Gordon started strong in the first set, courtesy of 5 kills from Alex Nawoichik. Megan Spurgin carried Gordon in the 3rd set, as she put together 3 kills. Spurgin was also key in the 5th and decisive set, with 3 more kills, to finish with a season high total of 11. Keri Hustus led the Scots with 12 total kills, while Meredith Phipps added 10.
Gordon's back line was held down by Leah Chamberlain and Jessica Taber who compiled 23 and 21 digs respectively.
Salem State's front line was led by strong play from junior outside hitter Rebecca Chapa, 15 kills, and the passing of Jazmin Barrows, 31 assists.
With the loss, the VIkings fall to 4-10, while Gordon improves to 3-10. Gordon will be back in action Friday night when they travel to Central New York to take part in the Hamilton College Invitational. Salem State will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday to face Rivier.
