All-MASCAC Soccer Teams Announced

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - The Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference announced their 2009 all-conference men's and women's soccer teams on Wednesday morning. Nine Salem State players were honored with selection to either the first or second teams.

Salem State midfielders Raphael Santos and David Miller were first-team all-conference picks, while the women placed midfielder Erin O’Brien and backer Taylor Orlando on the all-league first team.

Forwards Andrew Angus and Jared Barbosa highlight the second-team nominations on the men's side, while forward Jackie Gauthier, sweeper Cathy Greenough and forward Karly Henderson were selected to the second-team all-conference women's team. 

Framingham State College forward Jason Silva and Westfield State College forward Meg Gearin were named as the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Soccer Players of the Year.

Sam Avoine, (Fr., G, Ste-Perpetue, Que.) -- Posted pair of victories to go with 0.99 GAA and .982 saves percentage in leading Vikings to MASCAC Championship, including 20 saves in 6-1 semi-final triumph over Plymouth State to go with 34 stops in 2-1 overtime title game victory at Fitchburg State.

Damen Nisula, (Sr., F, Gardner, Mass.) -- Named as Most Valuable Player of MASCAC Championships after leading Vikings to tournament crown with 6-1 semi-final victory over Plymouth State and 2-1 overtime triumph at Fitchburg State in title game.
