Springfield College Outlasts Salem State 74-63 in Season Opener

Salem, MA - Ryan Blackmon (Stamford, CT) scored 30 points to lead the Springfield College Pride past the Salem State Vikings 74-63 in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.

Blackmon scored 17 points in the first half as Springfield College (1-1) built a 41-29 lead at  intermission. Conner Flynn (Marlborough, MA) had 12 points in the period as the Pride shot nearly 50 percent from the field.

Brian Clark (Deerfield, MA) led Salem State (0-1) with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting in twenty-seven minutes of action.  The Vikings out-rebounded The Pride 47-37, but shot only 35 percent for the game, including 3-of-23 from the three-point line.

Salem State is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on WPI in a non-conference game at 2:00 PM.

Sam Avoine, (Fr., G, Ste-Perpetue, Que.) -- Posted pair of victories to go with 0.99 GAA and .982 saves percentage in leading Vikings to MASCAC Championship, including 20 saves in 6-1 semi-final triumph over Plymouth State to go with 34 stops in 2-1 overtime title game victory at Fitchburg State.

Damen Nisula, (Sr., F, Gardner, Mass.) -- Named as Most Valuable Player of MASCAC Championships after leading Vikings to tournament crown with 6-1 semi-final victory over Plymouth State and 2-1 overtime triumph at Fitchburg State in title game.
