Chapa Earns Team MVP at Salem State Invitational

Junior Rebecca Chapa earns team MVP award.
Salem. MA — The Lady Vikings hosted the Salem State Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the James Twohig Gymnasium. Salem State competed against Western Connecticut, Southern Maine, and Mount St. Mary’s (NY) in a round robin tournament. The Lady Vikings finished 1-2 on the day, defeating Southern Maine, 3-1 in the opening round. 

Rebecca Chapa ( Westford, MA) earned team most valuable player honors for her outstanding play. Chapa recorded 29 digs and 10 kills in the opening match against Southern Maine, and finished with 37 digs and 10 kills in the final two games against Western New England and Mount St. Mary’s. 

Sophomore Jazmine Barrows (New Bedford, Mass.) also played well in the tournament, capturing a team-high 19 assists in game one. Barrows finished the day with 9 assists and 12 digs against Mount St. Mary’s 

Western New England won the tournament with a 3-0 record. Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, Ill) was named tournament MVP.
