Huskies Blank Vikings 1-0

(Salem, Mass.) – Josh Amoroso (Gorham, ME) broke a scoreless tie early in the second half to lift the University of Southern Maine Huskies past the Salem State Vikings, 1-0 in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
Amoroso, scored his first goal of the season an assist from Chis Kain (Kennebunk, ME) at the 54:04 mark to give Southern Maine a 1-0 lead. The game which was played in a driving rain featured very few scoring chances. The Huskies (7-8-2) held an 11-9 edge in shots and controlled play in their end for most of the second half.
Nick Johnson (South Portland, ME) nearly gave the visitors the lead in the first period when his shot hit the crossbar at the 10:41 mark.
David Kreps (Agawam, Mass.) made six saves to pick up his sixth win of the year. Scott Hall (Waltham, Mass.) recorded three saves in the loss for Salem State, which dropped to 6-8 on the year.
Southern Maine will host Keene State on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Salem State hosts Worcester State at Alumni Field at 1:00 PM this Saturday.
