(Providence, RI) - Rhode Island College swept Salem State, 3-0, for the third
time this season as the Anchorwomen raised their record to 10-9 in
collegiate women¹s volleyball action from The Murray Center on Thursday
night.
RIC, which defeated the Vikings (4-13) in their season-opener at the Regis
Invitational on Sept. 5 and again this past weekend at a tri-match hosted by
Rivier, have earned six consecutive wins over Salem State-with the last five
in a row coming by way of shutout.
The visitors struggled to get in rhythm the entire match, with several
hitting and reception errors allowing the Anchorwomen to pull away. Despite
trailing early in the first set, RIC battled back to lead 10-8 and later
used a 12-point run to finish with a 25-10 victory. Salem State tried to
keep up with RIC, but fell, 25-23 and 25-19, in the final two frames.
RIC Head Coach Luis Carvalho was able to get his entire roster into the
match and get many of his younger players valuable time on the court.
Freshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) torched the
Vikings all night, totaling a match-high 13 kills, coupled with only two
errors, in 26 attempts. Seven different Anchorwomen contributed kills to the
victory, with freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) earning
eight winners and four blocks. Freshmen setters Courtney McKiernan
(Scituate, RI) and Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) registered six and five
assists, respectively. Senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI)
paced the squad with five digs.
Sophomore middle hitter Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, MA) led SSC with three
kills, while senior libero Jessica Cantin (Medway, MA) registered five digs.
Senior setter Colleen Harrold (Pelham, NH) posted 10 assists.
